Jawad Bajwa, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Bajwa is the Medical Director for the Capistrant Parkinson's Center. He comes from the Cleveland Clinic where he has been recognized for his leading edge work in the diagnosis and treatment of neurogenerative and movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington's disease, Tourette syndrome and dystonia.
Dr. Bajwa's future vision includes developing and implementing initiatives that focus on quality outcomes that form the foundation for earning center of excellence status.
A graduate of King Edward Medical College in Pakistan, Dr. Bajwa completed his internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and his residency at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. His fellowship focused on clinical movement disorders and deep brain stimulation (DBS) and intra-operative mapping of DBS surgeries.
Dr. Bajwa is known for his kind, thoughtful and intentional approach to patient care and is respected within the medical community for his passion in help individuals managing neurodegenerative and movement disorders to live high quality, productive lives.
Charles F. Ormiston, MD
Neurologist
Dr. Ormiston is a consultant in neurology at the Capistrant Parkinson's Center. In the past he served as director of stroke and head injury rehabilitation at Bethesda.
Dr. Ormiston has an ongoing interest in stroke prevention, management and rehabilitation. He currently serves as director of neurology for
the National Brain Aneurysm Center.
His other clinical interests include recovery after a head injury and predicting and preventing concussions.
Dr. Ormiston is an invited speaker for national and international brain injury and rehabilitation seminars. He is a graduate of North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota Medical School and also holds a degree in pharmacy.
Paul M. Schanfield, MD
Neurologist
Dr. Schanfield is a consultant in neurology for Bethesda Hospital. His special interests include Alzheimer's disease, neuromuscular disorders, EMG and EEG, as well as general neurology.
Dr. Schanfield is both an associate and clinical professor for the University of Minnesota Medical School in family practice and neurology, and twice has been awarded "Teacher of the Year." He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed fellowship training at the Institute of Neurology at the University of London.
Kathryn Gilbertson, MSN, RN, CNP
Nurse Practitioner
Kathryn Gilbertson works with neurologists to assess and treat patients with Parkinson's disease. She works as part of a team to help with both motor and non-motor problems of Parkinson's disease. Kathryn has a special interest in patient education.
Kathryn received a master's degree from the University of Minnesota with a focus in nursing education. She went on to complete post-graduate work at the College of St. Catherine in the Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an adult and gerontological nurse practitioner.
Kathryn has taught in the Gustavus Nursing program, specifically in medical-surgical and ICU disciplines. She has worked with the Capistrant Parkinson's Center since September 2005.
Mary Sieben, RNC
Nurse
Mary Sieben is a nurse in the Parkinson's and Brain Injury Clinics. Prior to this position, she wokred on the inpatient geriatric/medical behavioral unit at Bethesda. Mary received her degree from Inver Hills College and has additional certification in gerontological nursing.
Jane Siegal, PsyD, LP
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Jane Siegal has worked as a health psychologist at Bethesda since 1999. She has extensive experience helping individuals and their families adapt to complex medical conditions including Parkinson's disease, dementia and spinal cord injuries. Her areas of expertise and interest include anxiety and depression, psychological implications of chronic medical illness, and assessment and treatment of mental health disorders in the elderly.
Dr. Siegal obtained a Masters in Public Health from Yale University after attending Tufts University as an undergraduate. She received her Doctorate in Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy University). She has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist since 1998.
Tanya Rand, MSW, LICSW
Social Worker
Tanya Rand is the social worker for Bethesda Hospital's Outpatient Services. She provides patient and family education, supportive family counseling, and offers resources for patients and families dealing with complex issues.
Before Bethesda, Tanya worked in behavioral care and chemical dependency at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Tanya's experience and interests include: case management; individual, family and group therapy; program evaluation and development, caregiver coaching and management; and crisis intervention.
Tanya graduated with a Master's of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas/College of St. Catherine with concentrations in clinical social work and practice with individuals, small groups and families.
Gwen Mensen, PT
Physical Therapist
Gwen Mensen has been a physical therapist at Bethesda Hospital since 1982. She became involved with the Capistrant Parkinson's Center when it opened in 2005, doing patient assessments and follow-up therapy. She sees patients with all levels of Parkinson's disease - from new onset to late stages of the disease.
Gwen enjoys speaking about exercise to patients and their families at our Living Well with Parkinson's class and at various Parkinson's support groups in the area.
Gwen received her bachelor's degree from Wartburg College and her certificate of physical therapy from Mayo Foundation School of Physical Therapy. She has always enjoyed working in inpatient rehabilitation and loves the new challenge of teaching and working with outpatients in the Parkinson's Center.
Roxanne Julius, DPT
Physical Therapist
Roxanne Julius is a physical therapist at Bethesda. In the Parkinson's Clinic, Roxanne evaluates and treats patients who have developed gait changes, balance issues, and overall reduced functional ability.
Roxanne received a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine.
Loretta Dutchin, OTR
Occupational Therapist
Loretta Dutchin is an occupational therapist working in Bethesda Hospital’s inpatient care and a lead therapist for the Parkinson’s Clinic. She evaluates and treats patients to maximize their independence with daily tasks such as self care, work and leisure skills through the use of adaptive equipment.
Loretta received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the College of St. Catherine. She has been at Bethesda since 1997.
Elizabeth Dessner, MS, OTR
Occupational Therapist
Elizabeth Dessner is an occupational therapist.
In the Parkinson's clinic she evaluates and treats patients with cognitive issues, along with problems
in their daily activities.
Elizabeth holds a master's degree in occupational therapy from the University of Minnesota.
Cheryl Bottorff, MS, CCC, SLP
Speech Language Pathologist
Cheryl Bottorff is the lead speech therapist for the Capistrant Parkinson's Center where she evaluates and treats patients with voice, swallow and cognitive difficulties. She also provides education to Parkinson's support groups around the area and presents information at the quarterly Living Well with Parkinson's class at Bethesda.
Cheryl received a master of science in speech language pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She has been practicing at Bethesda since October of 2004.
Erin McGee, CTRS
Recreational Therapist
Erin McGee serves in the therapeutic recreation department at Bethesda Hospital. She leads the Fitness Exercise Class, a class that stresses strengthening, stretching and aerobic exercise for Parkinson's patients.
Erin graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a bachelors of science degree in therapeutic recreation. She is credentialed through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
